Mineral paper has a porcelain-like surface — incredibly smooth — allowing acrylic inks to glide gently across it. Though thinner than traditional watercolor paper, it is remarkably sturdy and holds layered detail beautifully.
As this portal unfolded, mushrooms began rising from the ground inside the threshold. Tall vines stretch upward beneath a darkened sky, scattered with subtle star-like shimmers. A touch of salt was dropped into the wet paint, creating natural granulation that sparkles like distant light in the night.
This piece was born during a season of creative overwhelm — when thoughts were looping and doubt was loud. Instead of forcing clarity, I stepped outside into the garden and let the feelings move through my hands. What felt heavy softened. The spiral became a mushroom. The tension became vines. The sky opened.
When words fail, I paint the sensations in my body. I prune what no longer blooms and trust that something new will rise in its place.
