Watercolor Mornings, Collage Afternoons: My Favorite Creative Rhythm

Hello there! It’s been a while since I wrote, truth be told I am terrible a keeping to a blog writing routine. There is too many things to be distracted by… painting, creating, bird watching (yep, it happens when you are in your fifties!), and I just can’t seem to remember to do it! But, here goes… a little bit about my daily routine!

Before the noise, before the lists, before I decide what’s “good” or “productive”—I reach for my watercolor palette. This is my time to listen. Not to the world, but to myself. To breath, to color, to the gentle voice that emerges only when I slow down.

My morning practice is simple but full of intention. Sometimes I start with a short walk or qigong. Sometimes I just sit with tea and a journal, scribbling dreams, thoughts, or words that feel important. Then I let water and pigment move together, guiding each other across the page without agenda. The brush becomes a meditation. Some pieces turn into affirmations. Some are torn or layered later. Some are simply portals into the next moment of the day.

Afternoons are a different kind of magic.

This is when I dive into mixed media collage, the first art form I ever truly loved. With torn papers, vintage books & magazines, marks, textures, and a little wild energy, I build layers from what the morning offered. It’s a conversation between intuition and emotion… sometimes playful, sometimes revealing. A way to make meaning from the fragments.

I call it my rhythm… watercolor in the morning, collage in the afternoon. It’s how I returned to myself after losing access to my creativity following a stroke from COVID. At a time when I couldn’t paint, I could still feel—the pull of nature, the whispers of spirit, the invitation to stay present. Eventually, they led me back to color. To story. To art. To what I love so much!

Five years later, this rhythm still feels like a gift.

It grounds me. Inspires me. Heals me.
And it’s something I love to share with others—especially those who long to reconnect with their creativity in a gentle, meaningful way.

Whether you’re an experienced artist or simply curious, blending intuitive watercolor with expressive collage invites you to listen more closely—to what wants to be felt, remembered, released, or reimagined.

And the best part?
You don’t have to know where it’s going.
You just have to begin.

If you’ve ever felt disconnected from your creativity, or you're searching for a gentler way to return to it, know that you're not alone. Sometimes, the quietest rituals lead to the loudest breakthroughs.

This is how I begin again, every day.
With water, color, paper, and trust.

Happy creating… XO,

Krista

Happy Earth Day!

Hello! Hello! It’s Earth Day, honestly it’s Earth Day everyday. Most days I spend time outside on my patio painting, bird watching, chasing kitties, butterfly observing, and listening to the wind blow between the trees.

Today I’m celebrating by participating in Art Walk Orlando! It’s one of my first events back after taking a long break away from selling my art. I’ve spent weeks painting what I love, birds, owls, flowers, botanicals, and intuitive art.

If you’re in the Orlando area pop by and say hello! In a world of online likes, friendships, posta, and reels it’s nice to get out there and connect. We all share this beautiful planet we call home, so let’s celebrate by being together outdoors.

Today from 12-5 at The Hallway on The Yard 1214 Aldean Road, Orlando. Family friendly! Tons of artists, great food, and music! I’ll be doing a giveaway as well!

Happy Saturday! Happy Earth Day!

XO, Krista

P.S. Lots of new work, upcoming events, and an online course in the works! Stay tuned for more info soon!

Hello + Welcome

Things I’ve Learned… The List

I’m so glad you landed here! Being that this is my first blog post in over 15 years I thought I’d place a list of things I’ve learned. This blog will be a little glimpse into my art and healing process, the ups and downs of life, what I’ve learned along the way, and stepping bravely into this next chapter… The Next 50 Years. So here goes, the list…

  1. Inspiration and creativity are waiting for you.

  2. Your life is short too. So live it now.

  3. It is perfectly ok to admit, you are not ok.

  4. It’s just as easy to focus on the “what if it works?”, rather than “what if it doesn’t?”

  5. People can still do the best they can, but they can still hurt you.

  6. The darkest of times, reveal the light inside.

  7. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just needs to be done with effort.

  8. Qigong, yoga, and meditation are my medicine.

  9. The best gift you can give to your kids is accountability and validation.

  10. You can be angry, scared, and broken at the same time as feeling grateful.

  11. Hard times really do pass, but it doesn’t mean they won’t happen again.

  12. Learning to let go requires lots of practice.

  13. Forgiveness and moving on can physically be felt when it happens.

  14. If you can’t paint, then try something new. Your creativity wants you to.

  15. Life is so ironic.

  16. Sometimes all you can do is take a nap.

  17. Most of the things we fear never happen.

  18. Trails, mountains, rivers, starry night skies, and watching nature heals you.

  19. What you liked when you were younger, is way different than what you like now.

  20. Wherever you go, there you are. ~ John Cabot -Zinn

The learning never stops. Always be open to finding the lesson in each phase of your life. Thank you for joining me on this journey! I’m glad you’re here.

XO,

Krista
